Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 26, 2019

Volleyball

The West Central Heat suffered their first loss in Lincoln Trail Conference play. The Heat lost to Mercer County in three sets. Leading the way for West Central was Mady Reed with nine kills and 20 digs. Sadie Lenz handed out 23 assists and had three blocks. Megan Schaley led West Central in digs with 22. She also had five kills. Karli Stineman smashed 15 kills and had two blocks. Stineman led Mer Co in digs with 17 and service points with 20. Lillian Hucke dished out 14 assists. Mercer County remains tied for the conference lead at (3-0). West Central is (7-5) overall and (2-1) in the LTC.

Also at (3-0) in the Lincoln Trail Conference is United and Princeville. United had no trouble with Ridgewood, winning 25-9, 25-17 and Princeville knocked off Stark County 25-12, 25-21. United is (11-1) overall and Princeville improved to (14-4) overall on the season.

Annawan beat ROWVA 25-18, 25-16 and it was Wethersfield over Williamsfield 25-15, 28-26.

In non-conference play, Monmouth-Roseville defeated Galva 25-14, 25-10. Monmouth-Roseville is (12-7) overall, while Galva falls to (3-15).

Macomb beat Camp Point Central 25-14, 25-23 in a game that did not count in the West Central Conference North Division standings. Macomb is (18-5). Kennedy Adair had seven kills and Avery Rexroat had 17 assists for Macomb.

Golf

The Macomb Bomber girls golf team earned a pair of wins yesterday at Oak Run Golf Course. The Lady Bombers scored a team total of 161, beating Farminton’s 231 and Knoxville’s 241. Macomb’s Laine Torrance was the meet medalist with a 38. Kaci Luptak led Knoxville with a 45.

The United Red Storm girls golf team is (15-1) after beating Mid-County. The Red Storm shoot an impressive team score of 180, just one off the program record. Paige McKeown was the meet medalist with a 40. She was joined in the scoring quartet by Claire Carnes’ 46 and Emily Grodjesk and Gabby Neice’s 47’s.

The Red Storm boys golfers was edged out by Mid-County 163-167. Evan Wynne shot a 39 to lead United. Drew Brown added a 40 and Dyhlan Hepner and Andrew Fuller was next with a 42 and 46, respectively.

Soccer

Abingdon-Avon beat the Illini Bluffs/Farmington co-op 5-4. The game-winning goal was scored by Brycen Devine. Myles Shreeves had a hat-trick for the winning Tornadoes and also scoring for A-Town was Tylor Miller.

Junior High

The United Red Storm junior high baseball team’s season came to an end with a 10-4 loss to Nauvoo-Colusa in the class 2A Farmington regional championship.

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan 8th grade football team hosted the Mercer County Golden Eagles in Roseville last night. The Titans fell behind early 16-0 before Rhett Willett broke a 48 yard touchdown run. Willett took off on another long touchdown run just before the half to bring the Titans within 24-16. Willett scored again in the 4th quarter but the Titans would eventually fall 46-22. The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade got the Titans a split on the night, beating Mercer County 14-6. Payton Thompson and Dalton Root scored the two Titan touchdowns.
