Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 5, 2019

Cross Country

The Prime Beef Run that is ran on the streets of Monmouth took place last night. The United Red Storm girls claimed the team title, while Deer Creek-Mackinaw was the boys champ. Anne Gregory and Bridget Brokaw from United took 1st and 2nd respectively on the girls side. Natalie Gillette from United placed 11th. Monmouth-Roseville’s Stella Narkiewicz crossed the finish line in 8th lead the Titan runners. On the boy’s side Dee-Mack had 6 of the top 7 runners in the race. They were broken up by Monmouth-Roseville’s Carlos Serratos in 3rd. Conner Thompson was the top-finishing Red Storm boy with a 19th place finish.

Soccer

Monmouth-Roseville played its first of four games against Western Big Six competition this season, falling 5-2 to East Moline Wednesday afternoon at Pattee Fields in Monmouth. After UT scored twice in the first 11 minutes, the Titans trimmed the deficit in half on a goal by Steven Meza with 25:20 left in the half. East Moline added to its lead by scoring twice in the final three minutes of the half, but Monmouth-Roseville’s Valente Corral won a scramble for a loose ball in front of the net with 25 seconds to go to trim the Panthers’ lead to 4-2 entering intermission. The Panthers netted the only goal of the second half with 6:45 left in the game. The visitors out-shot the Titans 27-6. Monmouth-Roseville begins play in the East Peoria Invite on Friday.

After getting their first win in program history on Tuesday night, the A-Town Tornadoes lost to the Orion/Sherrard 7-0 last night in Avon. The Tornadoes trailed 2-0 at the half.

Golf

The Macomb Bomber girls golf team hosted Camp Point Central and Winchester West Central at the Macomb Country Club. The Bombers went (2-0), shooting a team score of 183. They were led by meet medalist Emma Thorman with a 39.

The Macomb Bomber boys golf team hosted Monmouth-Roseville and Quincy at the Macomb Country Club. The Bombers posted the low team total for the day with a 161, led by meet co-medalists Braeden Duncan and Connor Hamm’s 39’s. Quincy posted a 167, followed by Monmouth-Roseville’s 192. Mon-Rose was led in scoring by Reese Kane’s 46. Noah Clark’s 48 and Tyler Sells’ and Blake Cunningham’s 49’s also contributed to the scoring for the Titans.

Junior High

The West Central Heat baseball squad lost to West Prairie 19-5 in Stronghurst. Gage Stimpson led West Central at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

Knoxville jr. high school seventh-grader Addison Orr placed in the top 10 in the IESA girls’ golf sectional and will advance to the state meet September 14 at Kellogg Golf Course in Peoria. Addison carded a 47 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine to finish with a 90 at the Madison Golf Course in Peoria IL.
