Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Sept. 6, 2019

Volleyball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans hosted Quincy Notre Dame for a West Central Conference North Division match up. The visitors defeated the hosts 25-12, 25-13. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Delaney Woodard’s six assists and five blocks. Santina Alfano totaled eight digs. Bethany Allen also contributed five blocks as well.

The West Central Heat welcomed BPC for a non-conference match in Biggsville. The Heat get a 25-14, 25-12 win. Megan Schaley had five kills and five digs. She was helped out by Reagan Spence’s four kills. Sadie Lenz handed out four assists and Halee Porter led in digs, with six. West Central is now (2-1) overall on the season.

Knoxville beat Abingdon-Avon in a Prairieland Conference North Division contest. The Blue Bullets get a 25-23, 25-17 win. Hannah Jones led Knoxville with 9 kills 3 blocks and 7 digs, AJ Rask had 12 assists and Maren Wilder had 7 blocks for the Blue Bullets as well. Payton Florine led A-Town with 12 kills, Makayla Sloan had 10 assists and Alex Day had 7 digs.

It was Galesburg losing to Rock Island in three sets in the Western Big Six Conference. The Lady Silver Streaks fall in three sets, 19-25, 25-18, 25-19. Mary Hicks had six kills for Galesburg. Maddie Carlson dished out 14 assists and Brynn Atwell hustled her way to seven digs. Galesburg is (5-4) overall and (0-2) in the Big Six, with both losses coming in three sets.

Macomb beat perrenial small-school power West Prairie 25-16, 25-18. Kennedy Adair had six kills for Macomb. Her teammate Avery Rexroad had 21 assists and Maggie Vallillo had 18 digs for the winning Bombers.

Golf

The United Red Storm boys golf team split a pair of matches last night at Valley View Golf Course. The Red Storm defeated Mercer County 190-203 but fell to Ridgewood 166-190. Drew Brown led United with a 43. He was joined in the scoring quartet by Evan Wynne, Andrew Fuller and Dyhlan Hepner’s matching 49’s.

Junior High

ICS blasted Galva 18-1. The Trojans were led offensively by Zach Almaguer’s 3-for-3 night at the plate. That total included two doubles. Also getting mulitple hits for ICS was Jake Steele and Tyler Jones with two apiece. Jones also knocked in three runs.

West Central lost to LaHarpe/Dallas City 14-8. Alex McGraw and Eli Vancil had two hits each for West Central.
