Marcella Bernadine King, 97, of Galesburg, died at 6:15 a.m. Friday, September 20, 2019 at Knox County Nursing Home, Knoxville with her family by her side.
Marcella was born June 3, 1922 in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Louis and Anna (Robben) Mathews. She married Edward Lawrence King on March 27, 1945 in St. Louis, MO. He preceded her in death on January 21, 2002. Marcella is survived by three sons, Dennis King of Galesburg, David King of Henderson, and Dale King of Galesburg; one daughter, Diana (Charlie) Hayes of Galesburg; eight grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren. Along with her parents and husband, Marcella was preceded in death by an infant brother, Robert Mathews.
Family was Marcella’s life. She loved being a homemaker and raising her children, later spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church. She was an avid reader, lover of animals, and enjoyed swimming and taking walks.
Private funeral services will be Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg. Deacon Michael Crummer will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Galesburg. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be left in Marcella’s memory to the Knox County Humane Society or the Guardian Angels.
