Mrs. Phyllis Crummer, 86, of Galesburg died at 10:42 a.m., Sunday, September 22, 2019.

Phyllis was born July 23, 1933 in Ellwood City, Pennsylvania to Mr. William and Juanita (Loyd) Good. She married Rowland Grant Crummer in Galesburg on September 15, 1951. After 64 years of marriage, Rowland preceded her in death January 3, 2015.

She is survived by her beloved sister and friend, May Elizabeth Means of Galesburg; two daughters Leslie (Daniel Harry) Williams of Calumet City, Illinois and Rev. Kelli Jareaux of Washington, D.C.; two nieces Cynthia (Wickie) Lyons of Virginia and Sheila Howard of Calumet City, Illinois; two nephews Keith (Maria) Barker of California and Dcn. Michael (Janice) Crummer of Galesburg. Also surviving are four grandsons Patrick Brannon, Kaleb Jareaux, Shaka Williams, and Nathaniel Johnson-Harry; six great grandchildren LaCandice, Jasmine, Kelsey, DaQuaya, Patrick Jr. and Keono; five great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and many dear cousins—especially Louise Wilder of Galesburg.

Phyllis attended Galesburg Senior High School. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide and a Rehabilitation Specialist at Research Hospital, Galesburg and Zeller Hospital, Peoria for over 40 years. Phyllis was an exceptionally brilliant woman with an inquisitive mind. She loved solving puzzles, playing games of strategy; particularly playing Canasta, Scrabble and poker with her friends Roxy Schumann and Joan Hall. She was an extremely caring woman, often bringing her adolescent patients home for dinner or taking them to movies. Her caring spirit extended beyond the workplace and into her home where she helped raise many nieces, nephews and grandchildren. When her husband’s health began to decline, Phyllis took care of Rowland, full time, so he could remain at home. She was also an excellent cook, she will be remembered for her Chicken Devan and her Lemon Meringue Pies

Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Octobers 1, 2019 at East Linwood Cemetery. Rev. Tyson Parks will officiate. Memorials may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at www.h-pw.com.
