4-H will be offering two new programs soon.
The first will be a civic leadership program, where students will learn about local, state, and federal governments; will meet local government officials; and learn how to be “responsible citizens”.
The second program will focus on livestock aimed at students who do not think they can perform a livestock program or do not live on a farm.
4-H Youth Development Educator Shelby Carlson says that 4-H is for everyone:
“We’re always looking to expand and explore. There is room for everyone in our program. We’re very proud of our agriculture roots and our kids that continue with that and those passions. But, that’s not to say those kids can’t explore other passions or that other kids who maybe don’t have that background can’t still find the place where they feel involved, where they feel welcome in 4-H.”
4-H is working in conjunction with Western Illinois University on the livestock program.
