James A. “Jack” Cornell, 70, of Alexis, IL passed away at 3:18am, Friday, October 11, 2019 at Unity Point Methodist Hospital in Peoria, IL.

Jack was born June 1, 1949 in Watseka, IL, the son of Robert E. and Virginia M. (Crawford) Cornell.  He graduated from Monmouth High School in 1968.

He served with the United States Army for 3 years.

Jack married Joan Sharer in Alexis, IL on February 21, 1970 and she survives.

Jack worked for Maytag in Galesburg, IL for 30 years before retiring in 1998.  Following his retirement owned and operated Cornell Construction for several years.

He was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing.  Most of all he loved to watch his granddaughter play her many sporting activities.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Cornell; his son, Jamey (Brenda) Cornell; granddaughter, Kaylee Cornell; his parents, Robert E and Virginia M Cornell all of Alexis, IL; and his brothers, Rick Cornell of Clinton, TN and Bob Cornell of Johnson City, TN.

A Celebration of Life will be on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 2:00-4:00 pm at the Alexis Fieldhouse, Alexis, IL.  Cremation has been accorded. Memorials may be given to the Alexis North Henderson Ambulance Service. McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth, IL is in charge of the arrangements.
