Soccer

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans welcomed their old rivals, the Peoria Christian Chargers, for senior night at Pattee Fields in Monmouth. The Chargers rained on Monmouth-Roseville’s night, slipping in a goal with just 44 seconds to play to post a 3-2 victory. The goal came on a loose ball following a long flip throw by the Chargers, who also used that same formula to score the first goal of the game with 17 minutes to play. M-R’s Yvann Omanda scored both of Monmouth-Roseville’s goals in a four-minute span to put the Titants ahead 2-1 with 11:35 remaining. The Chargers tied the score at the 5:25 mark when they sent a free kick into the box and it was headed into the goal by the Titans as they tried to clear the ball. In the scoreless first half, PC held a 6-5 edge in shots. The final total saw Christian with a 14-11 edge. Following the match, which was M-R’s last home date of the season, a ceremony was held not only for the seniors but for M-R coach Aaron Sikorski, who has led the Titans for all 13 seasons of varsity soccer at the high school. He is stepping down from his coaching post at the end of the season. Now 10-6-2 on the season, M-R plays its next match at Galesburg on Thursday. We’ll have that one on the air as well. Our AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM pregame show will start at 4:15.
