Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 10, 2019

Volleyball

The big match up in our listening area last night came from the Lincoln Trail Conference. The top two teams in the league faced off in Princeville. The United Red Storm took the trip to Princeville High School hoping to come home with first place all to themselves. It was the Princes, who entered the game a half game ahead of the Red Storm, that came out still on top. The Lady Princes get a tight 28-26, 25-22 victory to move to (7-0) in the LTC. They are also (18-4) overall. United slips to (5-1) in league play and (17-3) overall on the season. They were led by Josie Bentz’s 11 kills, Riley Tyrrell’s 12 assists and Maddy Diaz’s ten digs.

Elsewhere in the Lincoln Trail, West Central gets over the .500 mark in the conference at (4-3) with a straight set win over ROWVA. Megan Schaley led West Central with seven kills and seven digs. Mady Reed led the way in digs with 15 and Sadie Lenz led in assists, with nine. The Heat are (11-8-1) on the season. Mercer County stayed in the title hunt with a 25-20, 25-23 win over Ridgewood. Karli Stineman had eight kills, 11 digs and two blocks for Mer Co. The Golden Eagles are (5-2) in the LTC. (5-1) Annawan was idle last night.

The Macomb Bomber volleyball team dropped a 25-14, 25-19 match to undefeated Quincy Notre Dame. With the win, QND wraps up the West Central Conference North Division championship and are now (21-0) overall. Macomb falls to (20-6) for the year and were led by Avery Rexroat’s 11 assists and seven digs. Tatumn Lantz smashed four kills and also had seven digs.

In non-conference action, perennial power West Prairie beat Southeastern 25-17, 25-12.

Junior High

In junior high girls basketball, the Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade Lady Titans defeated the United Red Storm 36-20. The leading scorer for the Titans was Brianna Woodard with 16 points. Alexa Anderson led United with six points. The 8th grade Lady Titans defeated the United Red Storm 38-14. Leading scorers for the Titans were Gracie Oma with 12 pts and Meredith Gonzalez add 7pts.
