IHSA State finals berths were earned yesterday at boys and girls golf sectionals yesterday. The United Red Storm girls golf team was trying to earn one of those berths at the Class 1A Peru St. Bede sectional at Spring Creek Golf Course in Spring Valley. There are just two classes in girls high school golf so the Red Storm were competing against much larger schools. United would place 8th as a team out of 12 schools with a team total of 406. Normal University High School was the team champ with a 321. Bloomington Central Catholic and Kewanee will also advance to the state finals in Decatur starting on Friday morning. Reagan Kennedy from Normal was the individual champ with an 18-hole score of 71. The top-10 golfers not already on a qualifying team also advanced to the state finals. Claire Carnes was the low-scorer for United with a 95 for 31st place. A score of 89 was the final individual score to advance. The Red Storm also got scoring from Paige McKeown with a 102 for 51st, Haley Marshall with a 104 and Emily Grodjesk with a 105. Also golfing for United at the sectional tournament was Gabby Neice and Addyson Trego.

The Macomb Bomber girls golf team will advance to the state finals at Red Tail Run Golf Course in Decatur this weekend. The Bombers scored a team total of 340 at the 1A Jacksonville Country Club. That was good enough for 2nd place. Sacred Heart-Griffin shot a team score of 332. Scoring for Macomb was Emma Thorman with a 76, Laine Torrance with an 84, Karlie Wisslead with an 89 and Lily Vardaman with a 91. Thorman is the only senior in the group.

In boys golf sectionals yesterday, United High School’s Evan Wynne competed at the Brown County Class 1A sectional at Rolling Greens Golf Course in Mt. Sterling. Wynne did not advance to the state finals in Bloomington this weekend. No score for Evan was found on the IHSA.org website.

In the Class 2A sectional at the Macomb Country Club, the Macomb Bomber boys golf team will join their counterparts, the Macomb girls golf team, in state finals tournament berths this weekend. The Bomber boys finished in 3rd place as a team at their own sectional with a score of 318. Quincy Notre Dame and Peoria Notre Dame took 1st and 2nd. Leading the way for Macomb was Conner Watson with an 83. Followin Watson with 84’s was Blaine Sutton, Griffin Taylor and Jack Lockard.
