Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 23, 2019

Cross Country

The West Central Conference held its championship meet at Monmouth Park yesterday in windy, chilly conditions. Quincy Notre Dame claimed the girls team title, with Macomb finishing 2nd and Monmouth-Roseville getting 3rd. Macomb was crowned the boys champ. In the girl’s race, Monmouth-Roseville got top-10 finishes from a pair of runners. Stella Narkiewicz placed 3rd and Dayanna Mora finished 10th. Macomb had three runners finish in the top-5. Khyliegh Diggs was 2nd, followed by Olivia Bishop in 4th and Halle Evans in 5th. As far as the boy’s race, Carlos Serratos was 4th and Joe Rivera was 9th for Monmouth-Roseville. Macomb’s Stan Melkumium was 2nd. His teammates Kerem Tasdan was 6th and Amir Oden-Shabazz was 6th.

Volleyball

Monmouth-Roseville ran its winning streak to six matches with a 25-20, 25-13 victory over Ridgewood. Carly Gillen totaled 12 kills and 11 service points. Delaney Woodard handed out 18 assists and Ryley Huston led in digs with eight, all for Monmouth-Roseville, now (23-11) overall. Brecken Anderson had five assists and Kendall Lewis smashed seven kills for Ridgewood, who fell to (8-24) overall.

The United Red Storm defeated Alleman in straight sets, 25-8, 25-12 at the Fieldhouse at United High School. With a win tonight against Stark County, the Red Storm can get their 30th win of the season.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes had no problem with Peoria Heights, winning 25-7, 25-14. Payton Florine had nine kills and seven aces and McKayla Sloan dished out nine assists to lead the Tornadoes.

The Macomb Bombers beat Mendon Unity, 25-13, 25-22. The Bombers are (27-7) overall on the season. They got seven kills from Kennedy Adair, 20 assists from Avery Rexroat and 12 digs from Maggie Vallillo.

Junior High

In junior high girls basketball last night, the ICS Trojans swept a pair of games from West Prairie. The Trojan 7th grade won 39-15, led by Addison Gillen’s 14 points. The ICS 8th grade won 41-12. Reece Bertelsen scored 19 to lead all scorers for the Lady Trojans.
