Volleyball

After an entertaining regular season, the Lincoln Trail Conference finally crowned a champion last night. The United Red Storm and Annawan Bravettes have been chasing the Princeville Lady Princes for most of the regular season. The Red Storm and Bravettes were one game behind the Lady Princes going into the final night of conference play. Annawan hosted Princeville last night with a chance to tie for the league title. The Bravettes gave the Lady Princes all they could handle before falling in the 3rd set. The final scores were 25-21, 19-25, 25-16. Princeville ends their conference slate with a perfect (10-0) record and are now (25-5) overall. The United Red Storm hosted Stark County on senior night last night. The Red Storm were hoping to get a win over the Rebels and couple that with an Annawan victory over Princeville, which would’ve created a 3-way tie for the conference championship. Well, the Red Storm took care of what they could control, getting a 25-21, 25-6 win to end their LTC schedule at (9-1). The Red Storm did garner their 30th win of the season, ending the regular season with a record of (30-5). United has won at least 25 matches for the past five years, including this one. They won 34 matches in 2016 and 32 in 2015. Kaylee Cornell totaled seven kills and five digs. Riley Tyrrell handed out 13 assists and Jenna Bentz hustled her way to five digs for the Red Storm.

Elsewhere in the Lincoln Trail Conference last night, the West Central Heat also held their senior night festivities before their match against Wethersfield. The Heat get a three set, 24-26, 25-19, 25-10 win over the Flying Geese. Megan Schaley garnered 14 kills and 21 digs for the Heat. Sadie Lenz handed out 28 assists and Mady Reed led the Heat in digs with 26. Brianna Kinkaid served for 16 points, with five of those being aces. West Central ends the regular season with an overall record of (21-13-1) and finish fifth in the Lincoln Trail Conference with a record of (6-4).

Mercer County finished with a record of (7-3) in the Lincoln Trail after a 25-15, 25-11 victory over Galva. Finally, it was Williamsfield over ROWVA 25-22, 25-8.

The Lewistown Indians beat the Knoxville Blue Bullets in a Prairieland Conference cross-division match up, 25-21, 25-9.

Soccer

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys soccer season came to an end last night in the Class 2A Peoria Richwoods regional semi-finals. The 6th seeded Silver Streaks fell to tournament host and 4th seed Richwoods 1-0. Despite Galesburg goal keeper Kyler Smith’s fantastic game, Richwoods scores with 22 minutes left in the match to move on to Saturday’s final. Smith made 12 saves for the Silver Streaks.

Junior High

In junior high girls basketball last night, the Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade Lady Titans lost to the Sherrard Tigers 29-26. Leading scorers for the Titans were Brianna Woodard with 12 points and Tatianna Talivaa with 8 points. The 8th grade Lady Titans also lost, 25-19. The leading scorer for the Titans was Ashya Bates with 5 points.
