Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Oct. 28, 2019

Cross Country

High School regional cross country meets took place around the state of Illinois on Saturday. Many of our local schools were running at Hawthorn Ridge Golf Course in Aledo in the Mercer County Class 1A regional. Congratulations to the United Red Storm girls team, the Knoxville boys and both the boys and girls Macomb High School teams. They will all move on to the Elmwood sectional meet this coming Saturday at Maple Lane Country Club. There were some individuals that will also move on, as well. We’ll start with the girls race. The United Red Storm girls, led by the overall runnerup Anne Gregory, placed 7th and will get the final team qualifying spot. Gregory will be joined by Bridget Brokaw in 20th, Natalie Gillette in 40th, Makaela Robinson in 46th, Danielle Bowling in 56th and Josie McElwee in 59th in the Elmwood Sectional meet. The Macomb Bombers placed 2nd overall as a team and were led by Olivia Bishop’s 11th place time. The regional individual champion is Breena Shreeves from Knoxville. She and her teammate Mackenzie Rader will advance to the sectional meet, as Rader placed 5th. Monmouth-Roseville’s Stella Narkiewicz finished 17th and qualified for sectionals. Abingdon-Avon’s Natalee Kern placed 45th but will not advance. Elmwood won the girls team championship. Elmwood also won the boy’s team title. Macomb was 3rd and Knoxville was 7th. All three teams will advance to the sectional meet. Macomb’s Stan Melkumian was the highest placing local runner as he crossed the finish line in 10th. Knoxville was led by Christian Hensley in 13th. Monmouth-Roseville’s Carlos Serratos advanced to the next round with an 18th place finish. West Central was led by David Gaylord’s 47th place finish. Abingdon-Avon’s Hunter Mason placed 50th and Untied had Ben McVey finish in 57th. They did not place high enough to move on.
