Golf
The first postseason high school sports took place around our listening area yesterday as boys golf teams headed to their regional sites. In Class 1A, the United Red Storm, Ridgewood Spartans, Knoxville Blue Bullets were among the teams golfing at Kewanee Dunes Golf Course. Alleman took the team title over runnerup Williamsfield with a team score of 328. Ridgewood was 3rd, United tied for 6th and Knoxville was 10th. Individually, United’s Evan Wynne will move on to next Monday’s sectional at Rolling Greens Golf Course in Mt. Sterling, Illlinois. Wynne shot an 88 to tie for 16th overall but his 18-hole total was one of the top-10 scores that were not on a qualifying team. His teammate Drew Brown shot a 91 and ended up tied for 22nd. Dhylan Hepner was right behing Brown with a 92. Andrew Fuller rounded out United’s team score of 372 with a 101. Ridgewood’s Thomas Bumann and Ganon Greenman shot a 77 and 78 respectively for 3rd and 4th overall. Ridgewood will move on as a team to Mt. Sterling next week. Damian Jones led Knoxville with a 94 for 29th. Drew Hall was the meet medalist with a 73 for Rockridge.
Class 2A regional host Quincy Notre Dame won their tournament at Westview Golf Course in Quincy. The Raiders shot a team score of 299, beating Macomb by 11 strokes. Macomb will join QND and Morton as full teams moving on to Monday’s sectional tournament at the Macomb Country Club. Quincy Notre Dame’s Alex McCulla was the individual champ with a score of 67. Monmouth-Roseville placed 7th as a team with a 392. Galesburg was 8th with a 411. Galesburg will have a couple of individuals moving on as Jason Runbom shot an 81 and Ben Templeton carded a 92.
Volleyball
United hosted West Central in a Lincoln Trail Conference match at United High School. The Red Storm won the match 25-21, 25-21 to remain undefeated in the conference at (5-0). They trail league leader Princeville by a half game. Princeville was a 25-19, 25-7 winner over Ridgewood. That sets up a big match up between the Red Storm and the Lady Princes tomorrow night in Princeville. Josie Bentz led United in kills with 16. Bentz also had nine digs. Riley Tyrrell handed out 16 assists for the Red Storm as well. For West Central, Megan Schaley had six kills and Sadie Lenz dished out 14 assists. Mady Reed totaled ten digs.
Other scores around the LTC included Annawan over Mercer County 25-18, 25-12. Annawan is right behind United and Princeville at (4-1) in league play. Wethersfield beat ROWVA 25-22, 25-9 and Stark County knocked off Galva in three sets.
Soccer
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan soccer team lost to the Orion/Sherrard co-op 2-0. Orion held a 10-7 edge in shots for the game as the Titans fell to 11-8-2 on the year.
Junior High
the Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade girls basketball team defeated Lombard 39-19. The leading scorer for the Titans was Brianna Woodard with 19 points. The 8th Grade Lady Titans defeated Lombard 52 -12. Leading scorers for the Titans were Gracie Oma and Ashya Bates with 10pts each.
