State Cornhusking This Sunday

The 38th Annual Illinois State Cornhusking contest will be held this Sunday, October 6th at 1063 30th Street Smithshire, Illinois. Dick Humes, President of the Illinois State Cornhusking competition, gives a lay out of how the day will operate:

“We are going to have ten classes this year. We shortened up the classes this year to ten minutes because of the high moisture of the corn. But we are still going to have a contest. We are going to have the Pee Wee contest like usual and then we are going to try and have a novice contest later on after we pretty well get through everything. And that will be for anybody that wants to try and pick corn,” Humes shares.

The top three in each class will go onto Nationals, which will be held in Gothenburg, Nebraska on October 19th and 20th.

The Monmouth-Roseville FFA will be on site serving food.

Registration will begin at 8am with the contest starting at 9. The cost is $15 to pick in the adult classes and $3 for youth classes. There is no charge for the Pee Wee contest.
