Mrs. Dorothy Pyle Behringer, 87, of Galesburg, Illinois formerly of Altona, Illinois passed away 6:08 pm Tuesday November 26, 2019 at Seminary Manor.

She was born December 15, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of William A. and Claire Milmine Pyle. She married Charles E. Behringer on August 12, 1951 in Altona. He preceded her in death on May 1, 2015

Dorothy is survived by her son, Charles Richard “Dick” (and Nancy) Behringer of Altona and Arkansas; her daughter, Patricia “Patti” (and Drew) Rader of Avon, Colorado; her cousins, Ray and Mike Eddy of Florida and Jim Milmine of Indiana; her brother, The Honorable Joseph P. Swallow, Retired of Michigan; two grandchildren, Dusty (and Beth) Behringer of Sandwich, Illinois and Ian (and Rose Marie) Behringer of Peoria, Illinois; four great grandchildren; her friend, Robert Kniss and his dog, Winston.

Dorothy taught middle school for Galva School District from 1966-1967. She then taught girl’s physical education for ROVA School District for 9 years, retiring in 1976. While at ROVA she was the Girls Athletic Association Sponsor and the cheerleading coach. She was an aerobics instructor part-time for two years. Dorothy later worked in marketing for the Eddy Corporation in Florida and the Riverbend Golf Course. She graduated from ROVA High School in 1949 and Monmouth College in 1966. Dorothy was a member of the Altona Women’s Club, the ROVA Teachers Association and the Illinois Teachers Association. She truly enjoyed volunteering for the Ladies Professional Golf Association while living in Florida. In the late 1990s, she served as the assistant golf coach to her son for the ROWVA Golf team. Dorothy was a member at the United Church of Altona.

Memorial Services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the United Church of Altona with the Rev. David Pyell officiating. Cremation will be accorded and burial will be held in the spring at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Altona. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the ROWVA Education Foundation or Ransom Public Library.
