Dr. Madhav T. Ratnakar, 83, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 2:18 am, Sunday, November 17, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL.

He was born May 23, 1936 in Indore, India the son of Trimbak and Indira (Jagirder) Ratnakar.  He was raised and educated in Indore, India where he attended school.   Madhav did his premed studies Holker College and later graduated from Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College.  He later served a two year residency at City Hospital in Worcester, MA and two additional years of residency at Aultman Hospital in Canton, OH, followed by a year in Carroll and a year in Detroit before arriving in Monmouth.

Dr. Ratnakar married Suman Sarwate in Indore, India on May 29, 1963 and she survives.

Dr. Ratnakar practiced Medicine in the Monmouth area for 34 years from 1974 until his retirement in 2008. In addition to running his own practice, Dr. Ratnakar served as the physician for the Warren County jail as well as the Monmouth College sports teams for several years.  He also served on the Community Medical Center’s Board of Directors for 12 years. He was instrumental and very proud of the establishment of the cardiac care unit and the cardiac lab at CMC where he served as director of both.  He also served as the president of the Warren County Medical Society.

Dr. Ratnakar was an avid golfer and traveler.  He traveled most of Europe, Japan and Asia along with going back home to India several times.  He loved talking and conversing about politics.

Survivors include his wife, Suman Ratnakar of Monmouth, IL; two sons, Devesh and daughter-in-law, Bhakt Ratnakar of Naperville, IL and Ashu and daughter-in-law, Anjali Ratnakar of Lincolnshire, IL; 4 grandchildren, Navni Ratnakar, Nina Ratnakar, Anusha Ratnakar and Sindhu Ratnakar; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and family members throughout the United States and India.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Shivran Ratnakar and sister, Mukta Pathe.

A Gathering of Family and Friends will be from 10:00-12:00 Noon on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  A private family cremation service has been held.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.
