James E. “Jim” Vandeveer, 79, of Monmouth, IL passed away at 1:21 pm, Friday, November 8, 2019 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL

He was born April 3, 1940 in Monmouth, IL the son of Dale Owen and Mary Ann (Clark) Vandeveer.  He was raised and educated in Monmouth, graduating from Monmouth High School in 1958. He later served with the United State Army Reserves for 4 years.

Jim married Marilyn L. Hull in Monmouth, IL on June 16, 1963 and she survives.

Jim worked at Gamble-Skogmo in Monmouth for 23 years.  He later was employed as a supply supervisor at Henry Hill Correctional Center in Galesburg from 1986-2002 before retiring.

He was a member of the Roseville Nazarene Church.  He was an avid sports fan and loved watching wrestling, basketball and football especially the New England Patriots.  He loved gardening and working in his yard.  He was a very giving man who loved spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Vandeveer of Monmouth, Il; one son, Steven T. Vandeveer of Monmouth, IL; one daughter, Karen S. Vandeveer of Monmouth, IL; his brother in law, whom he considered his brother, Alan (Carol) Hull of Camdenton, MO, along with many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his cousin, Betty Jean Morey.

Graveside committal services will be 11:30 am, Friday, November 15, 2019 in Monmouth Cemetery.  A Celebration of Life will be Friday morning from 9:30-11:00 am at McGuire & Davies Funeral Home and Crematory, Monmouth.  Memorials may be given to the St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
