Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Nov. 15, 2019

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High boys basketball teams competed in the Abingdon-Avon Classic last night. The 7th grade Titans won 22-19 over Macomb. Leading the way for the Titans was Martwan Butler and Ethan Clark with 6 points each. Monmouth-Roseville’s 8th grade fell to Macomb 56-22. Darrion Smith and Nico Avendano scored 6 points apiece to lead the Titan. Play continues tonight with the 7th grade Titans playing Elmwood for the tournament championship at 6:30. The Monmouth-Roseville 8th grade will take on Abingdon-Avon at 5:15 for 3rd place of the 8th grade bracket.

The ICS Trojan junior high girls basketball teams took a pair of games from Mercer County. The Trojan 7th grade won 15-10 on the strength of six points from Addison Gillen. ICS’s 8th grade won 22-20. Reece Bertelsen & Carmyn Huston each had 10 for ICS. The ICS 7th grade is now (12-4) overall, while the Trojan 8th grade girls are (14-3).

The West Central junior high girls basketball teams were at Macomb for two games last night. The West Central 7th grade fell 42-6. The Heat 7th graders are (9-6). They were led by Addie Seitz’s five points. West Central’s 8th grade salvaged a split on the night, getting a 47-30 win. Shelby Bowman scored an amazing 30 points for the winning Heat. The West Central 8th grade is (15-2).

Flynn Leads Scots Past Beloit on Saturday

The Monmouth College men’s basketball team rallied from 10 points down and held on to win 75-69 at Beloit College (6-8, 2-4) Saturday afternoon. The Fighting Scots (10-4, 4-1) secured
