Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team will play for the Ridgewood Thanksgiving Tournament title tomorrow night. The Titans clinched first place in their pool last night with an 82-43 win over Bushnell-Prairie City. Monmouth-Roseville led 28-15 at the end of the first quarter and 49-30 at the half. Again, the Titans had three players reach double figures. Lily Cundiff and Ryley Huston each scored 17 points. Among Cundiff’s 17 points was five, 3-pointers. Carly Gillen scored 12 points for Monmouth-Roseville’s other double-digit scorer. Monmouth-Roseville is (3-0) and has another pool play game tonight against Ridgewood at 6:00 but clinched a berth in the championship game with the win because BPC ends pool play with a record of (3-1) and the tie-breaker is head-to-head first. Knoxville also clinched a spot in the title game with a 54-20 victory over Orion. Knoxville is (3-0) and hold any tie-breaker scenarios. Breena Shreeves led Knoxville in scoring with 17 points. Cassidy Grady had 11 points as well for the winning Blue Bullets. Knoxville plays United tonight at 6:00 in the junior high gymnasium. Speaking of the United Red Storm, they earned their first victory of the tournament last night via a 40-27 win over Galva. Luci Kane led United with 11 points. The Red Storm outscored the Wildcats 17-9 in the final period to finally stretch out the margin of victory. The final game of the night saw Ridgewood get a 33-14 win over the United Township junior varsity. Pool play wraps up tonight with Monmouth-Roseville and Ridgewood playing at 6:00 in the high school gym. Mercer County and United Township follow at 7:30. In the junior high gym, Knoxville and United play at 6:00, followed by Galva and Rockridge at 7:30. Championship day starts tomorrow at 1:00 with the 9th place game. The title tilt is scheduled to start at 7:00.

Junior High

It was 8th grade recognition night for the ICS Trojan girls basketball team. They split a pair of with the Monmouth-Roseville Titans. The Trojans won the first game, 29-24. Monmouth-Roseville was led by Mia Reynolds with 10 points. The Titans end the season with a record of (15-6). Monmouth-Roseville won the 8th grade game 35-21, led by Elise Blaesing’s 12 points. The Titans end the regular season at (16-7). The 7th grade regionals start on Saturday.

The Monmouth-Roseville Jr. High boys basketball teams hosted Lombard Thursday night in non-conference play. The 7th grade Titans won 32-26 to improve to 4-1 on the season. Andy Myers led Monmouth-Roseville with 10 points. The 8th grade Titans fell to Lombard 46-31. Nico Avendano had 11 points to lead Monmouth-Roseville, who will host Orion in Prairieland Conference play on Monday.

The ICS Trojan boys swept a pair of games at Sherrard last night. The ICS 7th grade won 29-19, led by Nick Huston’s ten points. Leo Mahoney scored 14 points to lead the Trojan 8th grade to a 34-25 win.

The United Red Storm 7th grade boys beat Mercer County 34-23. Zeke Clark had 11 points for United. The 8th grade contest was a little bit closer but the Red Storm came out on top in that one, as well, getting a 24-23 win. Hunter Hall had nine points for the Red Storm.
