Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Nov. 5, 2019

Volleyball

The Macomb Lady Bombers’s season did come to an end in the Pleasant Plains Class 2A sectional semi-finals, however. Macomb loses to a quality Downs (Tri-Valley) club. The Bombers fall 25-19, 25-13 to finish their 2019 season with an overall record of (30-8). Tri-Valley improves to (35-2). Tatumn Lantz led Macomb in kills, with eight. Avery Rexroat handed out 15 assists and Maggie Vallillo led the Bombers in digs, with ten. Powerful Quincy (Notre Dame) season ended last night in the first semi from Pleasant Plains. The Raiders lost to Decatur (St. Teresa) by scores of 25-8, 25-13. QND ends their season with a record of (33-2). St. Teresa is now (33-5) and will play Tri-Valley tomorrow night in the sectional finals.

Also in Class 2A last night, the Orion Charger’s great season is still going, but fellow TRAC member Riverdale lost. The Chargers had no problem with Deer Creek-Mackinaw, beating the Lady Chiefs 25-14, 25-19. Mackenzie Grafton led Orion, who are now (36-1), with ten kills, eight digs, two aces and two blocks. Riverdale lost to top-seed El Paso-Gridley 25-19, 25-17. Riverdale ends with a record of (18-16-1). Orion will take on EP-G tomorrow night at 6:00 at Spring Valley Hall High School for a chance to go to the Farmington Super-Sectional on Saturday.

Illini Bluffs will play Elmwood for the Class 1A Kewanee Wethersfield sectional championship tomorrow night. Both were victorious last night in semi-final matches. Illini Bluffs defeated Princeville 25-17, 26-24 to move to (37-1) overall. It took Elmwood a little longer but they knocked off Ottawa (Marquette) in three sets. Elmwood, from the Prairieland Conference, will take a (27-4) record into tomorrow night’s regional title tilt. Illini Bluffs beat Elmwood way back towards the start of the season on September 5th.

Prairieland Conference member Lewistown will play for a sectional title as well. The Lady Indians beat top-seeded Jacksonville (Routt) 25-21, 25-22. They will play Athens, who defeated Mendon Unity in the first semi-final from Athens last night, in the sectional championship tomorrow night at Athens High School.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade Lady Titans defeated Mercer County 24-10. Leading scorers for the Titans were Mia Reynolds with 11 points and Brianna Woodard and Miley Sage each with 4 points. Monmouth-Roseville’s overall record is now 12-3. The 8th grade Lady Titans completed the sweep on the night, defeating Mercer County 23-15. The leading scorer for Monmouth-Roseville was Ashya Bates with 11pts. The 7th grade’s overall record is now 12-5 Conference 5-2.

Junior high boys basketball started last night, The ICS Trojans hosted Abingdon-Avon in Monmouth. Abingdon-Avon won the 7th grade contest 16-7. Jacob Hall had six points for A-Town and Steven Gibbs had five points to lead ICS. The Trojans won the 8th grade game 38-34 in overtime. Leo Mahoney had 17 points to lead ICS, while Carter Redfern and Weston Marler had 11 to lead the Tornadoes.
