Monmouth-Roseville District Update

The first quarter of the 2019-2020 school year has been completed and report cards have been sent out in the Monmouth-Roseville school district. Superintendent Ed Fletcher states the reports were pleasing and looks for even higher improvement in the upcoming quarters:

“Whether you are commendable, under performing, or not, the process does not change. You are still always looking to be a competitor. You are still looking for continuous improvement. Next year, the levels expected increase just a little bit more. It becomes just a little bit harder to be labeled a commendable school,” Fletcher reports.

By the year 2028, the Illinois State Board of Education’s goal is for schools to have 90% of their students’ proficient.

The Monmouth-Roseville School Board approved their tentative tax levy at the recent meeting. Every year the district anticipates what their increase in Equalized Assess Value (EAV) will be. Fletcher explains how that value changes their balloon levy:

“If we anticipate it going up three and a half percent, I will anticipate a percent change of six percent so I don’t leave any money on the table. You really don’t know, it is a guessing game until we get our EAV in May. We work with the county; try to give our best indication of what our EAV is going to be. I anticipated six percent, which would eventually keep our levy almost exactly where it is at,” Fletcher states.

Fletcher anticipates being at a 3.5% increase in the EAV assessment in more realistic, which would be a one cent increase in the levy.

Friday, November 15th is designated as School Board Members Day in Illinois to recognize the outstanding efforts that nearly 6,000 elected members do for their districts. Monmouth-Roseville Superintendent Fletcher is thankful and appreciative of his seven board members:

“Kevin Killey is the board President. Nicole Trego is Vice President. Anita Sells is the Secretary, Cathy Froelich is our Treasurer. Then we have Joe Bratcher, Dan Watson, and PJ Brooks,” shares Fletcher.

The theme for this year’s School Board Members day is “Transform Vision into Reality.”
