Russell C. “Rusty” Stanton, age 73, of Monmouth Illinois; passed away at
OSF Holy Family Medical Center on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 9:53
pm. Rusty was born August 11, 1946 in Monmouth and is the son of Donald
Manville Stanton and Elizabeth Marie Mathison. He was raised in Monmouth where he graduated from Monmouth High School class of 1964 and then attended Monmouth College.
Russell married Deborah A Bersted on June 26, 1971 at Faith United
Presbyterian Church in Monmouth, Illinois. After they married, they
lived in the Chicago land area for 5 years while Rusty got his feet wet
in the Insurance industry. In 1977 they returned to Monmouth to raise
their children. He then joined his father Don, and uncles Jon and Carter
at the Stanton Insurance Agency. Russ later became the sole owner and
operator of the family business, which is celebrating its 100 year
anniversary.
Rusty was an avid duck hunter and fisherman on the Mississippi river. He
was a member of the Honey Creek Bar Club out of Shokokon for many years. He loved his time north of Oquawka at his “catfish cabin”. He was also active in the Monmouth Kiwanis Club and Shriners. Rusty was a member of the Monmouth County Club and loved his Wednesday’s playing golf with the boys. He served as precinct committeeman for the Republican Party and was a member of the Warren County Board for many years, serving on the Building and Grounds committee.
Surviving are his wife Debbie of Monmouth, two daughters, Jenna Clayton
and Chad of Galesburg, Illinois. Katie Stanton of La Mesa California.
two sons, Erik and Yana Stanton of New Hill, North Carolina, and Jeff
and Melissa Stanton of Oquawka, Illinois. Also surviving are his four
grandchildren, Hailey, Carson, Jake, and Baylen. Russ’s sister Shaila
Johnson of Fox Lake, Illinois, and Jack and Kathy Stanton of El Cajon,
California. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A gathering of his Family and Friends is planned on Saturday, November
30, 2019 at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, Illinois from 11:00 to
1:00 pm. A service of Personal Remembrances of Russel C. Stanton is
planned by his family and friends at 1:00 pm at the funeral home. A
family committal is planned later at Warren County Memorial Park
Cemetery. Memorial funds have been established for Strom Center of
Monmouth, the Buchanan Center, or the Nancy Bersted Special Needs Trust.
