Mr. Carl L. Sandberg, 91, of Galesburg, died at 12:05 a.m. Sunday, December 15, 2019, at Aperion Care Galesburg North. 

Carl was born January 26, 1928 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the son of Chester and Sylvia (Linebaugh) Sandberg.  He married Margaret Weir on August 17, 1952 in Galesburg. 

He is survived by his wife of over 67 years, Margaret; two sons, John Sandberg and Tom Sandberg; two grandchildren, Lauren and Ryan; a great grandson, Thatcher; and a brother, Earl (and Joyce) Sandberg.  He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

Carl was raised in Lincoln, and also lived in Saint Joseph, Missouri.  In 1944, he moved to Galesburg and graduated from Galesburg High School in 1945.  He spent three years in the U.S. Navy, spending time in the Philippines and in Japan.  After his time in the military, he worked as a draftsman for Midwest Manufacturing and Maytag, retiring in 1993.  He was a member of the First Christian Church in Galesburg and was active in church activities.

Cremation will be accorded.  Visitation will be 10 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel.  A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the chapel.  Rev. Martha Jean Fitch will officiate.  Private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to First Christian Church.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
