Invitations to bid for the demolition of the Monmouth Municipal Airport hangar have been collected and the city is currently awaiting final reports on the structure before the area can be cleared in preparation for new construction. Ken Helms, Community Engagement Director, states it will be a long process:
“Given that it is an airport, there are all kinds of different regulatory stuff that we have to do. Everything down to the small stuff has to be approved by the FAA. As a matter of fact, last year we had to put up a new antenna on the hangar and that all had to be blessed by the FAA for a six foot antenna on it. So that kind of gives you a measure on the process of stuff,” Helms shares.
The cause of the fire was ruled undetermined.
