Daniel R. Olson, 71, of Galesburg, died at 6:25 p.m. Friday, December 20, 2019, at home.

He was born December 5, 1948, in Kewanee, the son of Richard R. and Anna M. (Tyler) Olson.  He married Shelley A. Kruithof, the love of his life, on June 12, 1976, in Holland, Michigan.  Their love for each other has been a beautiful inspiration to many.

He is survived by his wife of over 43 years, Shelley; a sister, Rebecca (David) Buss of Golden, Illinois; and many beloved nieces and nephews.  His parents preceded him in death.

Dan graduated from Galesburg High School in 1967 and earned his associate’s degree from Carl Sandburg College.  He worked for Galesburg Glass Company from 7-7-1977, until they closed in 1995.  He opened Olson’s Paint Spot on Main Street in Galesburg in 1999 and operated his business until retiring in 2017.  Area contractors and homeowners remember Dan for his wealth of knowledge and outstanding service.

Dan was an active member of Bethel Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday School Teacher, worked with the Boy Scouts, and was involved with the Greeting Ministry.  He was a lifelong, avid Chicago Cubs fan and his unique sense of humor was a constant source of entertainment to all his beloved nieces and nephews.

Shelley and family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Seminary Manor, the ICU and 4th floor nurses at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, and Harbor Light Hospice.

Cremation will be accorded.  Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019, at Bethel Baptist Church.  Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2019 at the church.  Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Baptist Church or the Osteogenesis Imperfecta Foundation.  Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is handling arrangements for the family.  Online condolences may be made at www.h-p-w.com.
