Eloise Sue West, 77, of Galesburg, died at 2:08 p.m. Friday, November 28, 2019 at OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.

Eloise was born October 19, 1942 in Kewanee, the daughter of Nicholas and Veronica (Babarsky) Kopen.  She married Charles R. “Dick” West.  They later divorced but remained close friends.  She is survived by two cousins, John (Sandra) Schopa of Deerfield and Carole Seman of Constantine, MI; and a dear friend, Diane Wunder.  She was preceded in death by one cousin, Beverly Polivka.

While married to Dick, they owned and operated a grocery store for several years.  She later worked for Midwest Photo in Galesburg, and last worked at Bergner’s.  Eloise was a longtime social activist, active in both the local and state Democratic party.  She was instrumental in helping establish Safe Harbor in Galesburg.  Eloise was a fantastic artist and enjoyed the local art scene in Galesburg. 

Cremation rites will be accorded.  No services will be held.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Watson Thomas Funeral Home and Crematory, Galesburg.  Memorial contributions may be made in Eloise’s memory to Safe Harbor.  Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.watsonthomas.com
