The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys took on the Eureka Hornets at the 74th Annual Macomb/Western Boys Basketball Holiday Tournament. It was a match up of teams coached by IBCA Hall of Famers, Chuck Grant from Monmouth-Roseville and Tim Meiss from Eureka. With over 1100 career wins between the two, one of them were going to add to their total. It was Monmouth-Roseville getting the victory 60-53. The Titans held a 45-27 advantage at the half but the Hornets would cut the deficit to four points in the 4th before Monmouth-Roseville would hold on for the victory. Rashaun King had 15 points to lead the Titans. Quincy Talivaa added for the winners as well. We had the Abingdon-Avon game on the air immediately following that one. Falling behind 4-0 at the outset, A-Town then went on a 27-5 run to end the first half to lead 27-9 at the break. It wouldn’t get any better for the Panthers in the 3rd quarter as the Tornadoes pitched a shutout, taking a 40-9 lead into the final period. The final score was 45-14. Ryan Adolphson had 15 and Kaden Jones had 14 to lead Abingdon-Avon, who will now match up with Monmouth-Roseville tonight at 6:30 in the quarterfinals. Our Sunny 97.7 WMOI pregame show will start at 6:15. Our final broadcast last night had the host Macomb Bombers taking on Lewistown. The Bombers doubled their win-output for the season with a 58-39 win over the Indians. With the victory, Macomb is now (2-8) on the season. Sam Allen had 18 and Tyler Bickers had 13 to lead Macomb. The Bombers will play 4th seeded Farmington tonight at 8:00. We’ll have that one on Sunny 97.7 WMOI, immediately following the Monmouth-Roseville post game show. Farmington had no trouble beating Illini West 57-28. Other winners from Macomb yesterday included Liberty, Rockridge and West Hancock. New tournament member Wethersfield was beaten in overtime in the final game of the day. The Flying Geese lost in overtime to Pittsfield, 52-51.

In other boys basketball tournament action last night, the Galesburg Silver Streaks began their Taylorville Holiday Tournament with a 64-37 win over IVC. Jaylin McCants led Galesburg with a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds. Eric Price chipped in with 14 points in the win as well. The Streaks play two pool play games today, taking on Mt. Zion at noon and Taylorville at 8:30 tonight.

Bushnell-Prairie City won their first round game at the Mississippi Valley Invitational in Mendon. The Spartans knocked off the Mendon Unity, 48-36. BPC will play Western tonight at 7:30 in the semi-finals.

The Abingdon-Avon girls basketball team lost to Athens, 38-31, at the 38th annual Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic. Brook Piper scored 12 and Ashley Jones was also in double figures with 10 for A-Town, who were without Emma Ginther due to a family emergency. The Lady Tornadoes get back on the floor this morning at 10:30 against Jacksonville. The Macomb Bombers were beaten by Brown County 71-50 in their first game in Beardstown. Macomb will battle Western at 11:00. The top-seeded Lewistown Indians had no trouble with Athens, getting a 65-20 win. The big upset in Beardstown was 15th seed Liberty beating 2nd seeded Jacksonville Routt, 48-45. 11th seeded West Hancock also got an upset win over 6th seeded Winchester 58-47.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls dropped a pair of games in Mattoon in pool play. The Streaks lost to Altamont 49-39 and Olney, 33-32. They have one more pool play game today against St. Anthony at 10:00 this morning before starting pool-crossover play later tonight.

The BPC ladies won two games at the 9th Annual Lee Westerman Holiday Tournament in Princeville. The Lady Spartans beat Midland 47-31 and Elmwood 49-46. They’ll play Galva at 10:30 and Princeville at 6:00. Princeville won two games yesterday as well.

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls get back on the floor tonight in the Cliff Warkins Memorial Basketball Classic. The Titans battle Rockridge today at 4:30. The Knoxville Blue Bullets play Morrison at 7:30. Should both teams win, they’ll face-off at 6:00 tomorrow night in Erie for a berth in the tournament championship on Monday night. We’ll have the Monmouth-Roseville/Knoxville match up tomorrow night on AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM with the pregame show at 5:45.
