The ROWVA/Williamsfield Boys Basketball Invitational Tournament came to an end last night at Williamsfield High School. The United Red Storm came into the final night with a round-robin record of (3-1) and had a chance to win the tournament with a win over the host Cougars and a loss by Henry/Senachwine to Galva. Henry played the game directly before the Red Storm and took care of what they had to do with a victory over the Wildcats to end the tournament at (4-1). United could also finish (4-1) for the week with a win over ROWVA/Williamsfield but a 44-41 head-to-head loss to Henry earlier in the tournament meant the best the Red Storm could finish was 2nd in the tournament. Well, that’s exactly what United did with a 54-47 win over the Cougars. Jacob Dutton led United with 16 points and Evan Wynne and Declan Flynn each scored 11 points for the Red Storm as well. West Central beat Riverdale 64-57 in the first game of the night to end their tournament with a (3-2) record. Jackson Krieger had 16 points and Landen Beelman had 14 to lead the Heat in the win.

In girls high school basketball last night, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans hosted the Rockridge Rockets for their home opener at Monmouth-Roseville High School. The Titans were coming off their first loss of the season at West Hancock last Tuesday night and were looking to get that bad taste out of their mouth with a win over Rockets. Monmouth-Roseville jumped out to an 18-6 lead at the end of the first half and methodically stretched the lead even further througout the night. The Titans would have a 52-29 lead by the time the final horn blew. Carly Gillen led three Titan players in double figures with 14 points. Ryley Huston had 13 and Lily Cundiff had 10 for Monmouth-Roseville as well. Monmouth-Roseville sports an overall record of (6-1).

Elsewhere, Abingdon-Avon edged out Farmington 46-45 in the Prairieland Conference North Division opener for both clubs. Bailey Dickerson hit a 3-pointer with 2.1 seconds left for the winning score for the Tornadoes. Ashley Jones led the winners with 12 points. A-Town is now (3-1), while Farmington falls to (2-3).

In another close one, Knoxville beat Sherrard 36-35 at Sherrard. With the win, the Blue Bullets are (10-1) overall, while Sherrard drops to (2-4).

The Macomb Bombers got 18 points from Grace Stufflebeam but it wasn’t enough to beat the Canton Little Giants. The Bombers were on the wrong end of a 69-54 decision to remain winless at (0-6).

Finally, it was BPC over Beardstown by a score of 48-40.
