The Monmouth-Roseville Titan boys lost a Macomb/Western Holiday Tournament quarterfinal game on Friday to Abingdon-Avon, sending them to the 5th place bracket on Saturday morning. The Titans lost a shootout to Liberty 66-58 to fall to (7-7) overall on the season. Quincy Talivaa led Monmouth-Roseville with 17 points. Liberty went on to beat Macomb 55-45 in the 5th place game later in the day. Speaking of Macomb, the Bombers defeated Pittsfield 48-33 before losing to Liberty in that 5th place game. All-Tournament team member Sam Allen led Macomb in scoring in both game, totaling 41 points between the two ballgames. Abingdon-Avon fell to eventual tournament champion Rockridge 38-30 in the semi-finals on Saturday afternoon, relegating them to the 3rd place game on Saturday night. The Tornadoes would bounce back to take the 3rd place trophy, beating top-seed West Hancock 47-39. Ryan Adolphson led A-Town with 22 points and eight rebounds. Rockridge knocked off Farmington 47-42 in the title game. Tournament MVP, Nate Henry led Rockridge in the title game with 22 points and six rebounds. Henry ended the tournament making 27 of 29 free throw attempts.
The Galesburg Silver Streak boys won the Taylorville Tournament, going (5-0) for the week. The Streaks beat Sterling 48-44 on Saturday night for the title. Galesburg’s Jaylin McCants and Eric Price were named to the all-tourney team. Price led the Silver Streaks in the final game with 18 points. McCants had eight points and 11 rebounds. Galesburg improves to (13-2) for the year.
The BPC Spartan boys took 3rd place in the Mississippi Valley Invitational in Mendon. The Spartans beat West Prairie 65-35 in the 3rd place match up. Rushville/Industry defeated Barry Western 59-51 to win the 8-team tournament.
Princeville claimed their own 92nd Annual Holiday Tournament. The Princes beat Elmwood 48-45 to take the title. It was Ridgewood over Henry-Senachwine 54-48 in the consolation championship game.
In girls basketball, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans ran into a red-hot shooting Knoxville Blue Bullet ball club on Saturday night in the Cliff Warkins Memorial Basketball Classic. The Titans fell to the Bullets 68-45. Cassidy Grady hit 10, 3-pointers in the game. Knoxville will play Stockton in the championship game at 6:00 tonight. The tournament organizers match the remaining against teams that they do not normally see during the season for the rest of the games on the final day. Monmouth-Roseville will take on Fulton at 1:30 in the Erie High School gymnasium.
The Abingdon-Avon girls basketball team beat the high-scoring Macomb Bomber girls 64-51 on Saturday afternoon, sending them to the Play-In consolation bracket final game today at 1:30 in the Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic. Ashley Jones scored 31 points for A-Town in the win over the Lady Bombers. Annie Althaus had 12 to lead Macomb. Top-seed Lewistown has been rolling through the tournament and will take on 7-seed Havana at 7:00 for the tournament title.
Wrestling
The Monmouth-Roseville Titan wrestling team was in action over the weekend at Abe’s Rumble Tournament in Springfield. There was a total of 60 teams in the tournament. The Titans went (1-3) as a team in the first round, placing them in the bronze bracket on Saturday. Monmouth-Roseville went (3-1) finishing 10th in the bronze bracket. The highlight of the weekend for the Titans was Martin Arteaga going a perfect 8-0 with 7 pins beating 2 ranked wrestlers at 120 lbs. Martin is now 21-1 on the year.
