Basketball

The Knoxville Blue Bullet girls capped off an undefeated run through the Cliff Warkins Memorial Tournament with a 47-41 win over a game Stockton ballclub. Stockton actually led the game 21-11 after the first period before the Blue Bullet defense clamped down and only allowed 20 points the rest of the game. Breena Shreeves led Knoxville with 17 points and Hannah Jones chipped in with 16. The Blue Bullets are now (21-1) overall on the season. The Monmouth-Roseville Titans also had to come back to beat Fulton 60-55. Carly Gillen had 21 points lead the Titans in scoring. Lily Cundiff nailed five, 3-pointers for her 15 points. Monmouth-Roseville goes (4-1) for the tourney, improving their overall record to (16-3). Cundiff and Gillen both made the All-Tournament team. Knoxville had Cassidy Grady and Breena Shreeves named to the list. Tiana Timpe from Stockton was named the tournament’s MVP.

The Abingdon-Avon Lady Tornadoes lost their first round game of the 38th Annual Beardstown Lady Tiger Classic, but then ran off three straight wins, culminating with a 56-39 victory over North Greene. Ashley Jones’ great week for A-Town ended with a 23 point effort in the win. She led the tournament in scoring average. Lewistown remained undefeated on the season at (15-0) after beating Havana 44-30 in the championship game. Illini West knocked off Illini Bluffs 48-23 in the 3rd place game.

The Brimfield High School girls was beaten by Normal U-High 49-39 in the Small School Girls Division of the State Farm Classic. CPC/SE lost in the first round but made it all the way to the Consololation Championship game. The Lady Panthers were knocked off by Oakwood 35-19.

In holiday boys basketball tournaments, Sterling Newman won the Warkins Memorial Classic with a 42-29 win over Erie-Prophetstown.

Despite entering their tournament seeded 6th, former Galesburg Silver Streak coach, Mike Reynolds took his new team, Dekalb, to a Chuck Dayton Classic championship. The Barbs beat Naperville Central 52-48.

The Kewanee Boilermakers were beaten by Indian Creek 64-61 in the Marseilles Tourney title game and the Rock Island boys lost to Wheaton Warrenville South in the Large School Boys Division of the State Farm Classic in Bloomington
