Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Dec. 5th, 2019

Basketball

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team won their 2nd straight game this week, getting a 68-59 win at Kewanee Wethersfield. Carly Gillen led the (7-1) Titans with 20 points. Ryley Huston scored 18 and Hannah Braun had six, big 3rd quarter points on her way to a double figure scoring night with ten points.

The United Red Storm girls were only down two points at the half in their game at Bushnell-Prairie City but a two-point 3rd quarter led to their 50-37 non-conference defeat to the Spartans. Laney Butler and Arianna Villareal led a balanced scoring attack for Red Storm with seven points apiece. United falls to (2-5) on the season.

The Knoxville Blue Bullets are now (11-1) overall after getting a 42-32 win over Mercer County.

In high school boys basketball, the Abingdon-Avon Tornadoes led an early lead slip away in a 51-47 loss to Ridgewood in Abingdon. We’ll have the Tornado boys on the PCSN tomorrow night as the Farmington Farmers come to A-Town High School for an important matchup between Prairieland Conference North Division favorites.

Also, ROWVA/Williamsfield lost to Delavan 54-29 in an ICAC game in Williamsfield.

Wrestling

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan wrestling team traveled to Farmington for a dual match against the host Farmers and Dunlap. The Titans get a split on the night, beating Dunlap 65-18 but losing to Farmington 48-36. Getting two wins on the night were Kevin Bikopo, who earned both his wins via pin-fall and Trey Anderson, who also garnered a pair of pins. Ashton Anderson and Jesus Rojas each got two wins, with one of those being pins.

Junior High

In junior high boys basketball, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans hosted Knoxville in Roseville in Prairieland Conference play. The 7th grade Titans improved to 6-2 (2-1) with a 40-21 victory. Leading the way for Monmouth-Roseville was Ethan Clark with 13 points. The 8th grade Titans improved to 4-4 (2-1) with a 39-27 win. Nico Avendano had 12 and Darrion Smith and James Blackman had 8 points each for Monmouth-Roseville.

Toberman Wins Shot Put at Meet of Champions

The Monmouth College track and field teams finished the two-day Augustana Meet of Champions on Saturday. After competing in the discus, javelin and 10,000m on Friday, the other events were
