United Logo Under Discussion

Share

Back in September, United School District Superintendent Jeff Whitsitt was contacted via email from a PR firm representing the University of Miami regarding the use of the school’s split U logo, which the school district has now used for 16 years. The PR firm stated United’s logo was similar to theirs as both schools use the split U logo, but the colors are different. Whitsitt shares the district contacted the University back in 2003 when Alexis and Warren first consolidated:

“We cleared this back in the day and I recall it vividly we reached out to the university at the time. We reached out to Miami and St. John’s, who uses the Red Storm, about some things and vividly remember St. John’s telling us no at the time on some things that we were talking about. The attorney at Miami that we were dealing with in that case, specifically told us that as long as there is a 50 percent difference, you know, we couldn’t make ours half orange like their’s is and half green like their’s is. As long as there way a 50 percent difference in the insignia, it really should not be an issue. Ours was red and white and their’s was green and orange. The was more than 50 percent in our book,” Whitsitt states.

No action has been taken in regards to changing the logo at this time as the district is still in discussion with the University.
