Five Chargers reached double figures as the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team ran away from Kishwaukee in the final 13 minutes to come back for an 88-63 Arrowhead Conference victory Thursday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- Sandburg (15-6, 1-2) led 35-30 at the break, but the Kougars (5-13, 0-3) briefly went ahead at 43-42 on a 3-pointer from Emonte Collins. The Chargers answered right back with a trey from sophomore guard Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) to open a go-ahead 8-0 run.
- Kishwaukee was still within 59-51 with 9:00 to play, but sophomore Noah Young (Colfax, Ill./Ridgeview) picked up a steal and went the length of the court for a three-point play, igniting an 11-0 Sandburg run.
SANDBURG STANDOUT
Sophomore Carter Fayhee (Macomb, Ill./Macomb) had a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards. It marked Fayhee’s second double-double of the season.
OTHER TOP CHARGERS
- Freshman Jean Luc Wilson (East Moline, Ill./United Township) paced the Chargers with 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Wilson also handed out a team-best three assists.
- Gowan hit three 3s and finished with 15 points.
- Sophomore James Jones (Springfield, Ill./Lanphier) scored 13 and had five boards.
- Freshman forward Cody Baer (Dunlap, Ill./Dunlap) had 10 points and seven rebounds.
FOR THE KOUGARS
- Daelyn Franklin was the only Kishwaukee player in double figures, scoring 32 points and grabbing 10 rebounds while shooting 13 of 27 from the field. Franklin was 5 of 13 from distance.
