Share

Galesburg Police Department’s K-9 unit has received a donated bullet and stab-protected vest.

The vest was donated to Zeus, who was acquired by GPD in August 2019 and is two years old, by Vested Interest in K-9s, a non-profit organization based in Massachusetts. Each vest is valued between $1,744 and $2,283 and comes with a five year warranty. The vest has been sponsored by Nancy Pyron of Huson, Montana

Zeus works alongside Officer Jacob Taylor and works in drug detection, as well as tracking people and articles. The duo recently completed training in Decatur to be a certified, full-service, canine team in Illinois.

Zeus is one of an estimated 3,000 K-9 in the United States.
