Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Jan 10, 2020

Basketball

In Biggsville last night, was the battle between the United Red Storm and West Central Heat girls basketball teams. The Heat shot 44 free throws in the game, making 22 of them. The Red Storm, on the other hand, shot just three total free throws, making two of them. Despite the disparity, West Central only gets a nine point victory, 46-37. Mady Reed scored 15 points for the Lady Heat, who improve to (11-5) overall and remain a game behind the leaders in the conference standings at (3-1). The Red Storm fall to (5-14) and (1-3). West Central earned the #5 seed and United was awarded the #8 seed in the league tournament and will be in the same pool. The United Red Storm junior varsity is now (7-1) after beating the Heat in last night’s first game of the night, 39-5.

Princeville, is (15-4) overall after getting a non-conference win over the Peoria Heights/Quest Academy co-op 68-22.

The Brimfield girls knocked off Abingdon-Avon last night, 70-48. Ashley Jones had 29 points to lead A-Town in scoring.

Camp Point Central/SE had no trouble with Macomb, beating the Bombers 73-48.

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls led Moline 32-20 in a Western Big Six Conference game at John Thiel Gym in Galesburg and maintained that 12-point lead going into the fourth quarter but Moline would storm back and get a 61-59 win. The Streaks are now (13-7) overall and (3-4) in the Big Six. The loss breaks a 4-game winning streak. Lauren Livingston led Galesburg with 20 points, including four 3-pointers.

Junior High

The Monmouth-Roseville Titans hosted Macomb in Roseville. The 7th grade Titans fell to the Bombers 33-32 in a game full of lead changes. Titan Scorers: Ivan Godina 11, The 8th grade Titans fell 49-19 to the Bombers. Titan Scorers: Nico Avendano 9.

The United Red Storm and ICS Trojans played a pair of games at United Jr. High School. United won 7th grade game 36-21. Elliott Copeland scored 14 points for United and Andrew Way had eight for ICS. The Trojans come back for a split on the night, getting a 35-21 win. Leo Mahoney and Jake Steele had ten points each for ICS. Owen McMillan, Carson Horner and Landon Burns all had four points for United.
