Basketball

The Lincoln Trail Conference girls basketball tournament continued pool play last night in Woodhull. The United Red Storm game against Ridgewood was postponed on Saturday night to last night so the Red Storm had two games on the schedule. First, they made up their game with the Ridgewood Spartans. United trailed the Spartans 12-11 at the halftime in a defensive slugfest. The Red Storm would take a 22-19 lead into the final period but Ridgewood outscored United 14-10 in the last eight mintues to get a 33-32 victory. Luci Kane led United with ten points and Tatum Miller was the top-scorer for Ridgewood with 12. The Red Storm were beaten 55-29 by West Central in their second game. The Heat jumped out to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter and led wire to wire. Again it was Kane leading the way for United with 11 points. West Central had three girls in double figures, led by Carley Lafary’s 18 points. Mady Reed had 14 and Megan Schaley had 11 as well for the Heat. West Central is (1-1) in pool play, while United slips to (0-3). Also last night, Princeville and Mercer County remained unbeaten in the tournament after getting victories last night. Princeville blew out Ridgewood 71-27 and Mercer County beat ROWVA/Williamsfield 52-45. Karlie Stineman led a very balanced scoring attack for Mercer County with 13 points. Brinley Bauman led Princeville with 15 points. Finally, it was Wethersfield over Galva 61-38. Wethersfield’s Lexi Nichols led all scorers on the day with 24 points. Heading into the final two nights of pool play, Princeville and Annawan are both (2-0) in Pool A and Mercer County and Stark County are both (2-0) in Pool B. The tournament has tonight off before returning to the court tomorrow night and Thursday night. Championship cross-over play takes place on Saturday at Alwood High School in Woodhull.

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan girls basketball team was on the road at Illini West High School for the Jerry Logan Memorial Shootout. The Titans took on state-ranked Brimfield and led the game 32-31 at the half but a 23-4 scoring disadvantage in the 3rd quarter did Monmouth-Roseville in as Monmouth-Roseville falls 71-53. Monmouth-Roseville, who is now (17-7) overall were led by Carly Gillen’s 24 and Ryley Huston’s 20 points. Brimfield improves to (21-1) and were led in scoring by Haley Wallace and Ella Luna’s 23 points apiece.

Abingdon-Avon lost to Havana 65-59 despite Ashley Jones’ 25 points. Emma Ginther had 16 as well for A-Town.

The Knoxville girls are now (24-1) after beating Elmwood 79-31 and Macomb was defeated by Limestone 76-57.

The Galesburg Silver Streak boys made up their Western Big Six Conference game against Rock Island at John Thiel Gym last night. The Streaks won their 14th straight game beating the Rocks 73-62. Eric Price led Galesburg with 21 points. Jaylin McCants had 20 points and eight rebounds and Rylee Milan had his first varsity double-double of 11 points and ten rebounds.

Wrestling

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan wrestling team traveled to Aledo for a match against Mercer County. The Titans gave the perennial power Golden Eagles all they could handle but lost 39-33. Getting wins for Monmouth-Roseville via pin fall was Trey Anderson, Drayson Griffin, Ashton Anderson and Kevin Bikopo.

Bowling

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls bowling teams competed at the Sterling invitational yesterday. There were a total 9 teams taking part. The Lady Streaks varsity team took 4th place in their division. Casey Folger earned the top individual bowler of the tournament. She led the tournament in 3-game, 6-game and high single game, bowling a single game high of 267. Chloe Day also received an award for her high single game of 224.
