Carl Sandburg College’s John M Lewis Gymnasium was the site of the 2nd annual Sandburg Boys Basketball Shootout on Saturday. Seven games were scheduled between high school in West Central Illinois. The day started with Class 4A United Township beating Farmington by just eight points 51-43. Ben Martin had 11 points to lead Farmington. Up next, it was Brimfield over Illini West 58-48. Ashton Johnson had 23 points for Brimfield to lead all scorers in the game. Cole Jackson had 18 for Illini West. The third game of the day had Lewistown beating West Central 49-32. Brayden Vancil led West Central in scoring with 13 points. West Central falls to (5-9) overall on the season. The final four games of the day were much closer than the first three. In the middle game of the afternoon, Knoxville got out to a big lead over Sherrard and then held on for a 70-61 victory. Knoxville, who are now (13-2), were led by Jason Hise’s 19 and Eli Loving’s 18 points. Sherrard got 22 points from Eli Hofmann. The Tigers fall to (8-9) overall. The fifth match up of the Shootout was an intriguing match up of Monmouth-Roseville and state-ranked Peoria Quest. The Titans fell behind early 14-6 and trailed by 11 points at 42-31 early in the 4th quarter before storming back to send the game to overtime. Quest would eventually win the game 49-46. Isaiah Brown led Quest with 15 points. Quest improves to (13-3) with the win. Monmouth-Roseville falls under .500 on the season at (7-8) and were led by 11 points from Quincy Talivaa. Wethersfield took on one of the only teams to beat Quest during the season, Roanoke-Benson. Despite a dazzling game by Coltin Quagliano, the Flying Geese lost to Roanoke-Benson 55-46. Roanoke broke open a close game in the final two minutes for the nine point spread. Quagliano led Wethersfield, now (9-5), with 21 points. The final game of the day featured United and Midwest Central. United led 31-19 at the half and made enough plays in the 4th quarter to escape with a 52-46 win. United’s Declan Flynn had 19 and his teammate Jacob Dutton was also in double figures with 14. United is (10-5) with the win.

The A-Town Tornado boys blew out Stark County 64-33. A-Town’s Kaden Jones hit five, 3-pointers for 25 points. TJ Myers had ten points as well for the Tornadoes, who are (12-4).

The Galesburg Silver Streak girls beat Limestone 48-27 on the road on Saturday. Riley Jenkins had 18 points and five rebounds for Galesburg. Audree Peck flirted with a triple-double, accruing nine points, eight rebounds and seven blocked shots. The Lady Streaks are (13-6).
