Margaret Anne Wetmore Weber, 90, of Galesburg and formerly of Rio, IL, passed away on January 17, 2020.
Born in Evanston, IL, she was the daughter of Henry and Marion Wetmore. Margaret graduated from Niles Township High School. She attended Knox College, a family tradition, where she met her future husband. She married James L. Weber on October 15, 1949 in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Skokie, IL. In addition to the many duties of a farm wife and mother, she served as the Rio Township Clerk for many years, was an election judge, and Township Trustee. She was involved in many groups and clubs. In addition to Brownies, Girl Scouts, and Young Musicians Society where she received her first award, she also belonged to the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was involved in PTO at the various schools her children attended, a member of Rio Women’s Club serving as secretary and president, was Home Extension/KCAHCE secretary and president for many years. Margaret served as the Rio Town Clerk for 16 years, a Township Trustee for 8 years, and an Election Judge for 18 years. She belonged to Ladies of Mary as a charter member at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, was a CCD Kindergarten teacher, and an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion for 17 years taking communion to one of the Galesburg area nursing homes.
Margaret is survived by six of seven children: Laura (Frederick) Isele, David (Nancy), Theresa (Lyle) Miller, Mary ‘Beth’ Johnson, Thomas, and James (Kimberly). Margaret’s legacy also includes 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years,
James L. Weber, and a daughter, Kathryn (James) Olson.
The Rosary will be prayed Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. with Visitation from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Watson Thomas Funeral Home, followed by the funeral mass at 11:00 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church. Father William T. Miller will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church or the American Cancer Society.
