Pedestrian/Train Accident

On Monday, January 27, 2020 at 8:03 pm, officers from the Galesburg Police Department responded to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF) railroad crossing in the 100 block of N. Academy Street where it was reported by railroad personnel that a train had struck a pedestrian.

Upon officers’ arrival, a deceased victim was located on the tracks.  It was learned from the train crew that they observed a person on the tracks as they approached the Academy Street crossing and the person laid down on the track the approaching train was on. The crew applied emergency breaks but was not able to stop the train prior to striking the victim.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending the notification of family.
