Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb 11, 2020

Basketball

Postseason play started last night for class 1A and 2A high school girls around the state of Illinois. At the Class 1A West Central High School regional in Biggsville, the host West Central Heat ended United’s season with a 34-26 win over the Red Storm and the Ridgewood Spartans defeated Elmwood 68-37 in quarterfinal action. The tournament continues tonight with semi-final contests. Top-seed Brimfield, at (23-5), plays (7-24) Ridgewood at 6:00, followed by 4th seeded (17-13) Annawan taking on (16-11) West Central. The championship is set for Thursday night at 7:00.
There was just one game at the 1A ROWVA regional tournament in Oneida. ROWVA improved to (13-14) with a 48-41 win over Wethersfield in a first round game. Ashlyn Murdock and Abby Stowe led ROWVA with 12 points apiece. ROWVA will move on to Wednesday night’s semi-finals against 2nd seeded and (28-3) Princeville. Tonight’s quarterfinals feature Stark County and Galva at 6:00. Abingdon-Avon and North Fulton will take the floor at 7:30. The winners of tonight’s games will play at 6:00 on Wednesday in the first semi-final.

Bushnell-Prairie City’s season came to a halt last night after the Spartans fell to Mendon Unity 65-14 in the Liberty High School regional.

The Class 2A Rushville-Industry High School regional had two quarterfinal games on the schedule. Macomb lost to Camp Point Central/Southeastern 51-46. Macomb ends their year with a record of (4-21). (12-17) Central/Southeastern moves on to tonight’s first semi-final against #2 seed (22-3) Quincy Notre Dame. Also last night in Rushville, the host Rushville/Industry Rockets were beaten by West Hancock 61-30. (15-14) West Hancock will play ( 23-7) Monmouth-Roseville tonight in the second semi-final at 7:30. We’ll have that game on the PCSN, with the AM 1330/FM 94.1 WRAM and radiomonmouth.com pregame show starting at around 7:15, following the first semi-final’s completion.

Sherrard High School is the site for another class 2A regional tournament. There were a pair of quarterfinal games on the docket. Rockridge had not trouble with Orion, getting a 45-28 win. Also at Sherrard, it was Mercer County beating Alleman 42-35. So tonight’s semi-finals feature (24-4) Illini West vs. (12-13) Rockridge and (14-14) Sherrard against (20-11) Mercer County.

In the Kewanee Class 2A regional, Farmington beat Kewanee 41-32.

The (26-4) Knoxville Blue Bullets play their first regional game at the Bloomington Central Catholic class 2A regional tonight at 6:00. The Blue Bullets take on (16-15) Tremont in a semi-final match up.

Junior High

In junior high volleyball last night, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans hosted Mercer County in Roseville. The Titan 7th grade won the first set 25-17 but then went on to lose the final two sets, 25-23, 25-23. Leading in service points and assists was Mia Reynolds with 15 each. Brianna Woodard led in kills for the night with 24. The Monmouth-Roseville 7th grade is now (7-7) overall and (2-6) in the Prairieland Conference. The 8th grade Lady Titans battled their way to a split on the night for Monmouth-Roseville. The Titans get a 25-23, 26-24 victory. Leading the stats for Monmouth-Roseville were Elise Blaesing with 12 serving points, 17 assists, and 7 digs. Natalie Boyd had 8 digs, Emma Ferry had 6 service points, Brianna Woodard totaled 10 kills, and Raelyn Stokes with 13 digs. The 8th grade Titans hold an overall record of 9-2 and a Prairieland Conference record of 5-2.
