Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Feb. 20, 2020

Basketball

The West Central boys basketball team took the opportunity to get a non-conference makeup game in against the West Prairie Cyclones. The Heat might be warming up at the right time as they get their fourth win in their last six games after defeating the Cyclones 66-59. West Central led from start to finish, leading after each quarter to get their overall record to (9-21). The Heat’s Landen Beelman led all scorers with 25 points. He was joined in double figures by Nathan Bigger with 14 and Jordon Roller with 11. West Central shot 37 free throws, making 26, in the foul-filled contest. Zach Snow led (9-18) West Prairie with 17 points.

In another makeup game in the Lincoln Trail Conference, the Annawan Braves pulled into a tie atop the standings with a 60-38 win over Stark County. The Braves are (7-1) in the LTC, tied with Princeville, with one game to go. Wethersfield and Ridgewood are a game behind at (6-2). Tomorrow night, Annawan is at United, Princeville is at Mercer County, Wethersfield is at home against ROWVA/Williamsfield and Ridgewood is at Galva. It it ends in a tie between Annawan and Princevile, they would be considered co-champs. Annawan did beat Princeville 65-41 back on January 21st.

Junior High

In junior high girls volleyball last night, the Monmouth-Roseville Titans traveled to Rockridge to take on the Rockets in their final Prairieland Conference match up. The Rockets beat the Titan 7th grade 25-21, 25-19. Sophie Russell had 15 service points for Monmouth-Roseville. Brianna Woodard led in kills with 8 and blocks with 5 and Mia Reynolds added 14 assists. The Titans’ record is now 6-8 and conference record is 2-7. The Monmouth Roseville 8th grade defeated the Rockets in three sets, 25-16, 22-25, 25-23. Leading the way for Monmouth-Roseville stat-wise was Raelyn Stokes with 14 digs, Elise Blaesing handed out 22 assists and accrued 8 serving points. Natalie Boyd had 11 serving points and 6 kills. Emma ferry had 8 serving points. The Titans now hold a 13-3 overall record and a 7-2 conference record.
