Robert Deane Slater 75, of Monmouth, Illinois passed away on February 21, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. 

Bob was born on November 7, 1944, in Monmouth, IL, the son of Michael Deane and Helen Jane (Nelson) Slater. Bob was raised on the family farm in rural Monmouth and graduated from Yorkwood High School in 1963. 

He married Pamela Dowell on March 5, 1971 in Peoria, IL; she survives. 

 In 1985, Bob and his family moved to Bridgeville, DE where he pursued many career opportunities before achieving his final career in Milford, DE at the Delaware Rural Water Association. He was also nominated as the Delaware Rural Water Circuit Rider of the Year in May 2014 and retired in May of 2018. 

Bob was a member of the Union United Methodist Church in Bridgeville, DE. He had served as a Commissioner for the Town of Bridgeville for several years. Bob was a member of the Elks Lodge #2401 and the Milford Moose Lodge, Milford, DE. He and his family resided for 35 years in Bridgeville, De., until he and his wife moved back to Monmouth in 2019.  

Bob enjoyed metal fabrication, carpentry, boating, fishing, snowmobiling, skiing, and had many mechanical abilities. He also loved to spend time with his family. 

Surviving Bob is his wife Pamela (Dowell) Slater on Monmouth, IL; his children, Cynthia (Kevin) Glisan of Larchland, IL, James (Tamara) Slater of Biggsville, IL, Patricia Lamoreaux (Michael) Procino, Ocean City, MD, and Brandon (Rhiannon) Slater, Bridgeville, DE; His grandchildren, Chelsey Procino, Jacob Procino, Austin Slater, Emily Glisan, Jenna Procino, Haley Slater, Joseph Slater, Erin Glisan, Hunter Slater, Abigail Slater, Jaclyn Slater, Gabriel and Morgan Bush. Bob’s surviving siblings are: William G. (Karen) Slater of Oquawka, IL, Bonnie Teske of Lakewood Ranch, FL, Becky (Jim) Moore of Monmouth, IL, and Betty Frost of Aledo, IL. Bob is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary (Alecock) Dowell and brother-in-law, C. William (April) Dowell and several nieces and nephews. 

Preceding him in death are his parents: Deane and Helen Slater, a sister, Connie Slater and his father-in-law Thane Dowell; his brother in-laws Robert Teske and John Frost..

At Bob’s request, cremation rights will be accorded and a family service will be set at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Harbor Light Hospice, 1865 N. Henderson St. Suite 10, Galesburg, IL 61401.
