Here’s the WMOI/WRAM Athletes of the Week for the week ending Feb. 9th, 2020:

The Monmouth-Roseville Titan Athlete of the Week is junior wrestler, Jesus Rojas. Jesus earned a regional championship by going (3-0) in the Farmington Class 1A regional. All three wins were by way of pin-fall. Unseeded going into the regional tournament, Jesus defeated the 2nd and 3rd seeded wrestlers to garner a spot in the Olympia Sectionals.

The United Red Storm Athlete of the Week is junior boys basketball player, Declan Flynn. Declan scored in double figures in both of his team’s Lincoln Trail Conference Tournament wins last week. He dropped 23 points in a victory against the higher seeded Wethersfield Flying Geese. Among those points were two, 3-pointers and four-for-four from the free throw line in the all-important 4th quarter. He had 14 more points in a win over Galva.

The West Central Heat Athlete of the Week is senior girls bowler, Nicky Bole. Nicky has been a steady leader all season long for the Heat. She saved maybe her best day for last, leading her team in scoring at the Sterling Regional. Nicky rolled a 5-game score of 741. Her 3-game series high for the day was a 430 and Nicky had a single-game high of 156.

The Abingdon-Avon Tornado Athlete of the Week is senior girls bowler, Alexis Wilson. Alexis qualified for the United Township sectional tournament by placing 9th out of 70 total bowlers at the Sterling Regional. He fantastic day included a 6-game score of 1136. Alexis also had a 3-game series of an even 600 and single-game high of 216.

The Galesburg Silver Streak Athlete of the Week is junior girls bowler, Casey Folger. Casey rolled the second best score for the Lady Streaks at the Sterling Regional tournament. Her 6-game total of 1149 was good enough for 6th place overall. Casey also knocked down single-game high of 234 pins. Both of those totals were second only to one of her teammates.
