Bruce S. “B.J.” Johnson, 71, of East Galesburg, died at 8 a.m. Friday, March 13, 2020, at home.

He was born May 23, 1948, in Galesburg Cottage Hospital, the son of Dorrance Stanley and Jennie Lee (Jones) Johnson. He married Debra Jones on June 18, 1972. He later married Susie Webber on November 30, 1996 in Galesburg.

He is survived by his wife, Susie; a son, Luke (Veda) Johnson of Shorewood, Illinois; a daughter, Lindsay (Tyson) Wooldridge of Galesburg; stepsons, Sean (Melissa) Webber of Haslet, Texas and Scott (Cindy) Webber of Fort Worth, Texas; 10 grandchildren; a brother, Gary (Luann) Johnson of Oak Run; two sisters, Janice (Don) Sundquist of Galesburg and Dorrene (Mike) Endicott of Rock Island; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Bruce was an over the road truck driver, first working for Knoxville Transport and later for USF Freightways. He retired on his 62nd birthday in 2010. Bruce was a proud member of the Teamster Union Local 916. He was raised and educated in Knoxville, graduating from Knoxville High School in 1966.

He served in the United States Army Reserves. He was a 50-year member of the Knoxville American Legion.

Bruce was a likeable person who enjoyed life to the fullest with his family and friends.

The family would like to thank Josh, Dawn, and Pastor Mary from OSF Hospice for their care and support.

Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 21, 2020 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel. Memorial service will follow at noon with Rev. Mary Runge officiating. Burial will be in the Knoxville Cemetery, where military honors will be provided. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Following the burial, all family and friends are invited to Harley’s Reception Hall, 2243 Grand Ave. in Galesburg, for a time of continued fellowship.
