Fritz Timmerman, age 87, of Carman, Illinois has taken his last “tee-time” at home on Thursday March 12, 2020, following a short battle with cancer. He was born September 28, 1932 in Oakville, Iowa, the son of Fred and Wilma Faris Timmerman. On July 6, 1979, he married Jean Black in Burlington, Iowa. She survives.
Fritz was a 1950 graduate of Oakville High School. During high school, he was known for his pitching skills for the Oakville Fire Chiefs. After high school, he played for a farm team of the Cincinnati Reds.
Fritz was employed at JI Case for many years, and served as Representative for the United Auto Workers . He was Mayor for the Oakville community for eights years and also served as Fire Chief. He was an avid hunter and fisherman in his younger years. In later years, he was an avid golfer and coin collector. He also collected music boxes for a time, resulting in 789 boxes.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Jean, one son, Corey (Jessica) Timmerman of Burlington, IA, three daughters, Gale (Jim) Jacks, Nancy Walgren, and Mary Timmerman, all of Oakville, IA, twelve grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, David and Russell, and one son Roger.
No services are planned at this time. Burial will be at a later date will be in the Harris Cemetery, near Dallas City, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established for the Grace Bible Church in Dallas City. Banks and Beals Funeral Home is assisting the family.
