Jackie M. Lynch, age 96, of Galesburg, Illinois died at 2:55 P.M. on Friday, March 20, 2020 in at his daughter’s home in Galesburg, Illinois.

He was born on November 1, 1923 in Lewistown, Illinois the son of Gerald J. and Gladys (Ferris) Lynch. He married Rosetta G. “Susie” Winker on May 25, 1942 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin. She preceded him in death on August 3, 1996. He lived in Maquon for over 60 years.

Jackie leaves behind, six children: Larry (Wynona) Lynch of Monmouth, Illinois, Gerald Lynch of Abingdon, Illinois, Loretta (Ron) Wells of Galesburg, Illinois, Clifford (Mary) Lynch of Rural Maquon, Illinois, Robert (Becky) Lynch of Maquon, Illinois and Linda Williamson of Maquon, Illinois; eighteen grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren and twelve great-great grandchildren. Also, two half-sisters, Dixie Berry of Lewistown, Illinois and Doris Kolzes of Havana, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, Jackie D. Lynch, Jr., two infant twin daughters, and one infant brother, Denzel.

Early is his life he shined shoes and delivered newspapers. The owned and operated Jackie Lynch Waste Oil, he collected oil and he sprayed road oil, for over 30 years. He also owned and operated a dry-cleaning business in Canton, Illinois, and a rock jewelry business, making jewelry and attending rock and jewelry shows in the area. He was a member of the Fulton County Rockhounders Club.

He served proudly in the United States Army during World War II from February 12, 1943 to December 7, 1945, where he received the Victory Medal, American Theater Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon w/2 bronze battle stars, three overseas service bars, good conduct medal and then finally later received the Bronze Star awarded for service in the Combat Infantry with the 100th Infantry division in France and Germany during World War II. He was a life time member of the Harry Philblad American Legion Post #749, Knoxville, Illinois, the Galesburg VFW Post 2257, and the former Maquon American Legion Post.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 P.M. until 6:00 P.M. on Thursday, March 26, 2020 at the Hurd-Hendricks Funerals & Crematory in Knoxville, Illinois, the family will not be present. Private Graveside services and interment will be held on Friday, March 27, 2020 at the Maquon Cemetery, Maquon, Illinois. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harry Philblad American Legion or the Galesburg VFW.  Online condolences and expressions of sympathy may be made through www.hurd-hendricksfuneralhome.com.
