James A. Mooney, age 83, of Gladstone, Illinois passed away in the
morning of Monday March 9, 2020 in Donna, Texas. Jim was born on
February 4, 1937 in Farmington, Illinois and is the son of Jessie and
Margie Reed Mooney. He was raised in Fairview where he attended local
schools and later graduated from Fairview High School with the class of
1955. James married Judy Lee Keever on July 2, 2005 in Oquawka, Illinois
and she currently is surviving. Jim began work on the family farm with
his father near Fairview. Jim had his entire career with the road
maintenance crew of the Department of Transportation out of Lewistown,
Illinois. He retired in 2000, after 32 years. Jim loved fishing,
singing, dancing, and loved talking to and being with people. He and
Judy also were members of Faith Bible Church in Oquawka, Illinois. He is
survived by his wife, Judy of Gladstone, Illinois and three sons, Jeff
Mooney of Galesburg, Jim Mooney of Canton, and Scott Mooney of Cuba,
Illinois. There are four grandchildren and several great grandchildren
also surviving. Jim’s sister, Donna Burkhead survives in Cuba, Illinois.
He is preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Jim was cremated
in Texas and his ashes returned to Judy in Gladstone, Illinois.
A memorial visitation and service is being planned at Faith Bible Church
in Oquawka by his family, sometime after the easing of the shelter in
place orders by the Center for Disease Control. Yet to be announced.
Interment will be in Carman Cemetery at a later date. Turnbull Funeral
Home in Oquawka, is in care of the arrangements locally.
