Local High School and Junior High Sports Update for Mar. 3, 2020

Basketball

Regional tournament play started for big schools around the state of Illinois last night. At the class 3A regional played at John Thiel Gym at Galesburg High School, 8th seeded Richwoods had no trouble with 10th seeded Canton. The Lady Knights beat the Lady Giants 64-39, setting up a match up with the host Galesburg Silver Streaks tonight in a semi-final game starting at 7:00. Galesburg is (28-3) and ranked #4 in last week’s class 3A AP poll. The winner of tonight’s game will play the winner of tomorrow night’s other semi-final between (15-11) Peoria Manual and (11-20) Limestone. for a regional championship at 7:00.

Junior High

In junior high 7th grade volleyball regionals last night, the United Red Storm and West Central Heat each picked up quarterfinal victories at the Lewistown class 2A regional. The Heat beat BPC 25-21, 25-15 and the Red Storm knocked off Table Grove/VIT 25-4, 25-17. Also getting a quarterfinal win was the host Indians over ROWVA 25-11, 25-7. That sets up tonight’s semi-final match ups. Top-seed London Mills plays West Central at 5:30 and United takes on Lewistown at 6:30. The championship game is on Thursday at 6:00. All matches are played at Lewistown Junior High. The ICS Trojan 7th grade will play their first match of the postseason tonight. The top-seeded Trojans will play Galva at 5:30 at ICS Junior High in Monmouth. The second semi features Kewanee Visitation and Annawan. The championship match is also set for Thursday night at 5:30.
