Monmouth’s bats took a break Tuesday in Florida as the Scots mustered just eight combined hits in a 6-2 loss to the College of St. Scholastica and a 5-0 blanking by Carthage College.

Scholastica touched starter Tori Adolphson for five runs on 10 hits in the day’s first game. The Scots bats came alive in the sixth with three of their five hits in the game. Macey Bland legged out an infield hit to open the inning, Jessica Pauley walked and following an out, Laura Dulee hit safely to left center to load the bases. Following a fly out, Savannah Ball delivered, lacing a two-run, two-out single to center. That would be the last of the runs on the day as the Scots went down in order in the seventh.

Carthage pushed two runs across in the first inning of the late game for all the runs they would need. The Lady Reds retired the Scots’ first six batters until Jenna Pauley broke up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the third, one of just three hits in the game. Bland and Megan Corneils added Monmouth’s other hits on the day in the fifth and sixth innings for the Scots’ only baserunners.

The Scots will take midweek off before returning to action Thursday with morning games against Dubuque and Emmanuel.
